Terraced Mediterranean Garden – Paxos

The project encompasses the comprehensive landscape design of a private residence on Paxos, responding to the site’s pronounced topography and its Mediterranean setting.
The landscape is organized as a sequence of stone terraces, planted levels and pathways that follow the natural slope and connect the residence, swimming pool and different outdoor areas. Local stone forms the project’s primary material language, establishing continuity between the new interventions and the distinctive landscape character of Paxos.
Planting develops as a contemporary interpretation of the Mediterranean garden, combining olive trees, cypresses, aromatic plants and perennial species into a dense yet controlled composition. Variations in texture, seasonal flowering and foliage are integrated within the stone terraces, allowing architecture and vegetation to gradually merge into a unified landscape.
At the main residential level, a bespoke white perforated pergola creates a new outdoor living environment. Its geometric structure filters the intense Mediterranean sunlight into a changing pattern of light and shadow while integrating an outdoor kitchen, work surfaces and custom-built seating. Openings within the perforated screen preserve selected visual connections towards the garden and the surrounding Ionian landscape.
The intervention is completed by an integrated landscape lighting strategy, revealing the garden’s terraced topography after sunset and highlighting stone walls, planting, stairways and circulation routes.
Landscape, architecture, planting and light are conceived as components of a single design system, creating a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean outdoor living on Paxos.
